Fall is here!

The beginning of Fall is here and the Sea Turtles have been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather. It's hard to believe we have only been in school 3 weeks! The children are having a wonderful time in school learning, singing and playing.
This past week we have been busy with a variety of engaging activities. On the official first day of Fall, we went on a nature walk and created leaf and flower collages. We were also able to see a large silk worm on a tomato plant! The class also had a great time playing "ping-pong pick-up," a game played at the water table where children have to identify different colored ping pong balls. Learning about the letter Aa has also been a priority and the kids are enjoying looking through books and finding uppercase and lowercase a's. Reading the book, Elmer, was also a high point and each child made their very own patchwork elephants!
This next week will be all about apples and Johnny Appleseed! Think mini apple pies, apple collages, still life apple portraits and much more!

See you Monday!

Week 2 with the Sea Turtles!

The Sea Turtles are getting into the swing of things and had a great week 2! We were busy with a variety of activities from creating houses out of different shapes, learning about how we write our names, and making sea turtles out of beautiful shades of green tissue paper and paint. We read the book, Little Blue and Little Yellow, and the children had a magical time seeing firsthand how blue and yellow make green. This project prompted the students to think about what other colors can be made by using primary colors. We also took a trip to the Montecito Library where the kids were able to engage in music, movement and instruments!
While designing her house, Greer said, "I like my room the best because it is full of pretty things!" Aedan helped paint the cardboard box houses we set up in the courtyard while Robert enjoyed crawling in one and pretending it was a space ship! Heath was busy at the train table making a railway. Cooper is enjoying school as he let me know, "Miss Meika, I just love school!" I'll take that any day of the week :)! On sharing day, Luke shared his computer with the class and let each friend have a turn! Chloe loved her first week of school enjoying painting and the outdoor water table. All of the children are getting along so well!

Please come and visit our room as we are putting new projects and pictures on the bulletin boards! I am looking forward to what next week will bring! See you Monday!

First Week of School!

The first week of school was amazing and so much fun! The children had a wonderful time getting to know each other, the classroom, the school and me! This is going to be a spectacular school year for the Sea Turtles class. We spent the week engaging in a lot of different activities such as: gardening, creating self portraits, making a friendship fruit salad, singing and reading a variety of books like The Kissing Hand, The Runaway Bunny, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Knuffle Bunny. Aedan and Luke were hard working helpers as they gardened and installed the flowers in the courtyard sink! Very art deco. Robert and Greer had a great time playing with the horses and making houses for them out of blocks. Cooper was busy with Heath creating intricate marble mazes while Francesca made a house out of different shapes! All in all, a fantastic 1st week!

Next week we are looking forward to meeting Chloe and we are missing Francesca, who is on vacation!

See you all Monday!
