Make-A-Difference: Children Helping Children

Our project for the Transition House was a huge success! With the filling of our tote bags and visit this past week, we really made it happen! We had so many amazing donations from you and the project really resonated with the children. Thank you for all of your support and generosity during this endeavor! It meant the world to me, the children from our classroom and the families from the Transition House. We will make a class book and do some follow up reflection when we return from spring break! Thank you!

Happy Spring Break!

Our last week of school before spring break was eggcelent :). We were busy with Easter crafts, letter recognition and a science exploration where we placed an uncooked egg in vinegar. The kids made creative predictions! Luke said, "Maybe it'll disappear," and he wasn't far off! Ask your child about what happened! The last day was very special as we had our Easter egg hunt and parade! Thanks to the moms who came to help count and hide the eggs! See you in a week!

Rainbows, Leprechauns and Clovers!

The Sea Turtles had a great week celebrating St. Patrick's Day theme all 5 days! We explored rainbows, clovers, and leprechauns. The kids loved painting their rocks from the beach with rainbows, creating finger paint rainbows, making clover headbands, and beading green necklaces! We used mini clover cut-outs to learn about one to one correspondence with numbers. Our class party was amazing! Thank you to everyone who contributed and those who came! We had a blast!
Next week we will celebrate Easter with activities and an Easter egg hunt on Friday! We will also finish our service learning project with the Transition House!
See you Monday!

Roar! Dinosaur Week!

The Sea Turtles were at it again and had yet another fabulous week! Our days were spent exploring dinosaurs with lots of fun activities which included making dinosaur headbands, measuring how big a t-rex's footstep was in relation to ours, creating dinosaur footprints on paper and making a t-rex craft out of paint and sand. We also conducted a science experiment where we placed chicken bones in vinegar. The children made amazingly creative predictions! Luke said, "the bones will come together and make a chicken again," Spencer said, "the bones might break," Heath and Robert both said, "the bones might change color," Colton and Aedan both said, "the bones might make a dinosaur," Cooper said, "the bones will disappear," Mills said, "the bones will just be bones." On Monday, we will see what actually happened!
Our service learning project for the Transition House is going swimmingly! The kids are excited everyday about which item we will put on our poster board house next and they also made their bag tags for their tote bag! Thank you again to those who have brought in donation items!
This next week is all about St. Patrick's Day! Rainbows, shamrocks and leprechauns, oh my!
See you Monday!

Exploring Dr. Seuss!

Green eggs and ham, Dr. Seuss hats, wacky Wednesday, Oobleck and colored footprints! The Sea Turtles had an eventful week full of Dr. Seuss activities! On Monday we made green eggs and ham and the kids were enthralled when they saw the eggs turn from yellow to green! They all loved it (even though it didn't look appetizing to me ;)). Tuesday was filled with red and white striped hats in the classroom. Out on the courtyard the kids had time to plant their fresh Easter baskets! They have been looking everyday to see if any grass has grown yet! Wacky Wednesday was pretty wacky as the kids (teacher included) came dressed up in their wackiest outfits! Thursday brought on a science experiment of exploring oobleck, a simple recipe of water and corn starch that produces a liquid/solid substance. The activity went great with Dr. Seuss's book: Bartholomew and the Oobleck. The last day of the week was spent painting the kid's feet two different colors to differentiate their left from right after reading The Foot Book. We also started our service learning project to aid Transition House of Santa Barbara and the children have responded in a very positive way! We will continue the project throughout this whole month!
Next week we will be exploring dinosaurs and frogs! Dinosaur bone excavation, t-rex art craft, dinosaur footprints and much more!
See you Monday!
