Measuring, Counting, and Writing!

The Sea Turtles had a great week and are anxiously awaiting Monday for our annual Fall Festival! Throughout the week we engaged in skeleton q-tip art, paper bag pumpkins, measured and weighed our pumpkins, and ended with our class book, What Will You Be? The boys did such a great job with their writing and working on letter formation as they each hand wrote what costume they will be wearing to school on Monday! Thank you to Jen, Susan, and Christina for coming in this week to help in the classroom and read at circle time!
While October is winding down, November is right around the corner where we will be first concentrating on leaves and nature.
See you Monday for Fall Festival!

Pumpkin Patch Fun!

The Sea Turtles had a great week learning about pumpkins and ended the week with a fun field trip to Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch! Thank you to all who came out to help and drive to this event! It was such a fun time had by all! From the animals to Joe the Scarecrow to the hay ride and picking out pumpkins, lots to do in just one hour! It was especially neat to see how the boys stuck together when exploring, a true representation of how much they care about each other!
This next week we will be partaking in lots of crafts and exploring math and science concepts through measurement, weight, and attributes of pumpkins.
See you Monday!

Bats, Pumpkins, and Skeletons, OH MY!

The Sea Turtles had a great week working on bat crafts and sounding out _at words! They did such a great job sounding out the letter sounds to cat, hat, bat, sat, and mat! It was amazing to see them put the letter sounds into the word, wow, reading right before my eyes and theirs! You can imagine they were feeling pretty proud. To fight off the hot weather on the lower playground, we put up a sheet in the sandbox where the boys worked on canyons and volcanoes with lots of water. They do a fabulous job working together! We also celebrated Matt's 5th birthday on Friday with his mom and sister! Thanks Christina for coming in with special treats and balloons!
This next week will be all about pumpkins as we look forward to our Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch field trip on Friday!
See you Monday!

All About Apples

The Sea Turtles had a wonderful week discovering all about apples! We engaged in many exciting activities such as taste testing apples and graphing the results. The boys also completed a 5 apples up on top emergent reader, please continue to read those at home with your child! Pancake making, counting and number recognition, patterning, and cutting - we were busy learning!
This next week we will be learning about bats! The fire dept. is also coming on Tuesday, October 11th at 10:30am, please join us!
See you Monday!

Caring

The Sea Turtles ended September with a bang! One of the oh so many neat things about this group of boys is how they truly care about each other and others. I constantly get compliments from people about their manners and caring attitudes. After reading Have You Filled a Bucket Today, by Carol McCloud the message really resonated with them. If you have not read this please feel free to borrow it from class! As I sat down for lunch on Friday, the boys were busy getting their lunch boxes and Connor comes up to me and gave me a big hug and asks, "am I filling up your bucket Miss Meika?" The rest of the boys follow suit and soon I am smack dab in the middle of 8 sea turtles! Another time, a little girl fell on the bike yard and Declan went running up to her and said, "are you okay? I will pray for you at chapel." There are countless examples of these kinds of acts of kindness dispersed through the each week. Hearing the children say "I forgive you," is also so powerful. While not everyday second of every day is absolutely perfect, the foundation is there and the boys are learning monumental life lessons.
See you Monday!
